Frequently Asked Questions About Depigmentation Treatments
Cosmelan works by inhibiting the production of melanin, which is the pigment that gives darker colour to the skin. The treatment involves the application of a mask that contains a combination of active ingredients, including azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, and ascorbic acid, these work together to reduce melanin production and prevent the formation of hyperpigmentation.
Cosmelan is generally considered safe however, it may not be suitable for everyone, particularly people with sensitive skin or a history of skin allergies. It is important to consult with one of Bare Skin and Beauty’s highly trained skin therapists before a treatment.
3. What is the recovery time for cosmelan?
The recovery time for cosmelan can vary depending on the individual and the severity of their hyperpigmentation. Most people will experience some redness, peeling, and flaking of the skin in the days and weeks following the treatment. This is a normal part of the skin’s healing process and should reduce/stop within a few weeks.
The number of treatments required is normally just one but may require multiple treatments to achieve the best results. Your therapist can provide you with more information at your consultation.
The most common side effects of cosmelan include redness, peeling, and flaking of the skin. Some people may also experience itching, dryness, or a burning sensation. These side effects are generally mild and temporary and should subside within a few days to a few weeks. In rare cases, more serious side effects, such as scarring or changes in skin pigmentation, may occur.
More Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmelan
Yes, there is typically some downtime after cosmelan treatment as the skin may be red, swollen, and flaky for several days. It is important to avoid direct sunlight and to follow directions and aftercare given by your therapist.
Cosmelan is suitable for use on most skin types, including those with oily, dry, or combination skin. However, it may not be suitable for those with very sensitive skin or a history of skin allergies.
Most people see significant improvement in their skin’s appearance within a few weeks of treatment but it may take several months for the full effects of cosmelan to be seen, particularly for those with more severe hyperpigmentation.
Bare Skin and Beauty offer budget, standard and premium packages for cosmelan and prices are found on the cosmelan page.
The results from cosmelan can last for several years depending on the individual and the severity of their pigmentation but the treatment is not permanent and the skin may eventually develop new hyperpigmentation over time. Following the after care skincare can provide more permanent results.
